As we are all aware, there are a lot of battery-operated "Quartz" Watches in the marketplace today. Even they require overhauling, as similar oils are used for lubricating their moving parts; however, another culprit is the cell/battery itself, that is inserted in the Watch to power it. When a battery/cell is left inside the Quartz Watch after it's life expectancy has expired, it has a tendency to leak the acids that are inside the cell on to the movement. This is one of the reasons why when your Quartz Watch stops functioning, it's important that you take it to a Professional Jeweller to check and see if it is just the battery that requires replacement or if, in fact, it requires an overhaul.
It is recommended by Watch Manufacturers that a Watch should be overhauled every 3 - 5 years.
