RING SIZING GUIDE:

The question we get asked very often

“What do you think? Is that the way it’s supposed to fit?”

As this is you’re ring, you need to decide how you would like it to fit.

Rings are made of metal, and it takes a lot of effort to get the size just right using the same quality precious metals, which we do in our own workshop.

We will make it the size you decide, and if for any reason you would like to have that size changed, we must start the process all over again for that we will need to charge for the work we have to do, however if it’s NOT the size you had agreed upon when you brought it in, we will gladly redo it for NO CHARGE.

Our bodies fluctuate in size as a result so does our ring size. So please keep that in mind when deciding on what size you would like to have your ring sized.

Sooner or later we might find ourselves needing to have our precious ring RESIZED! Or even Cut Off…good news, all of this can be done and restored to new!

Resizing Your Ring to a Smaller Size
When a ring is made smaller, the jeweller usually cuts out a small portion of the band, and joins the pieces back together again with the same colour & Karat of Gold as your original ring. After restoring the circular shape, the ring is soldered back together and cleaned of any oxidation caused during the soldering.

Resizing Your Ring to a Bigger Size, the Jeweller will add more material to the shank, Gold, White Gold, Silver depending of course what your ring is made from.  The material is then smoothed, polished to perfection and you would never EVEN know it had been cut off or resized.  Also depending on the design/markings of your ring, the design will be kept in tact and restored.

Your Ring should go on your finger easy and come off a bit harder with a slight brush (residence) against your skin.

Centuries Old Craftsmanship:  That’s what a Goldsmith is!

A Goldsmith is a metalworker who specializes in working with Gold, Platinum and other precious metals. Goldsmiths must be skilled in forming metal through filing, soldering, sawing, forging, casting, setting stones, and polishing.

Goldsmiths also excelled in using innovative techniques such as enameling which allows glass to be fused with a precious metal like gold, enabling the creation of a highly colourful gold-made piece of art.  Other medieval techniques used by medieval goldsmiths included basse-taille which allows them to create low-relief gold patterns to be filled by enamel, engraving and embossing.  This was used on items such as golden scepters, crowns and textiles with gold lining.

Goldsmiths Manuscripts:

Manuscripts in medieval Europe were one of the most widely employed artisans. Typically, Goldsmiths were commissioned by rich nobility. During the medieval period, illustrated manuscripts were produced in Europe, Goldsmiths were the ones who used their high technical skills to adorn the covers, pages, bindings, very intricate gold work was achieved.  Nobles, monarchs, monasteries and clergymen commissioned illuminated manuscripts to be made.

Emperor:

Goldsmiths were occasionally commissioned by the Emperor when gold or other precious metals were needed.    The Byzantine Empire mosaic was one of the key genres of Art during the medieval period.

Bankers:

In most major medieval European cities, Goldsmiths often acted as bankers since they had a stock of well-secured gold.

Hearts & Arrows Diamonds https://joseandco.com/2019/01/25/hearts-arrows-diamonds/ https://joseandco.com/2019/01/25/hearts-arrows-diamonds/#respond Fri, 25 Jan 2019 19:23:33 +0000 https://joseandco.com/?p=2455 The post Hearts & Arrows Diamonds appeared first on Jose & Co Custom Jewellers.

The term Hearts and Arrows, also known as H&A…refers to round brilliant diamonds that have been cut to a very high degree of three dimensional symmetry, also referred to as “optical” symmetry”.  When looking through a special reflector device you will see a distinct pattern of 8 arrows when viewed from the TOP (the Crown) and 8 hearts when viewed from the bottom (the Pavilion).

The benefits of H&A diamond is optimizing the light handling capabilities to the extent that the diamond is proportioned and polished correctly, aligning the facets precisely in three dimensions enables each facet to do its specific job completely. Brightness, contrast and dispersion are optimized.  Excellence in craftsmanship, owning an H&A Diamond gives you pride knowing the diamond display’s tiny hearts and arrows that can be seen with a special viewer.  Your special someone will be thrilled!
